Selling Sparrows is a book about the life of labourers and their families in Victorian Britain and their struggles to survive in a system weighted heavily in favour of the rich. It is about crime, criminal justice, penal colonies and the convict transportation system.
The justice system, convict transportation, villains, lives of the poor and more........
I have researched over 700 prisoners under sentence of transportation from Bedford Courts to establish details of their deportation.
For the majority, the sentence was carried out, with the majority transported to Australia, and details of those can be found in the database.
Some were pardoned, some released from prison and some died. My research is not yet complete. It is an ongoing project.
